“Knowing What I Know About Heaven”
“Putting Off Loving You”
I really liked this song the first time I heard it. It’s light-hearted, catchy, country and has a good beat to it. It’s easy to imagine hearing it on the radio. I like that it shows the warm, playful side of me. I had so much fun cutting this. It’s a great sing-along song that makes you feel a little mischievous.
Something about you gives me butterflies when you come around
Maybe you’re the one my mamma used to warn me about
My heart is so inclined to step across the line
Just give a girl a chance to make up her mind
I’m not saying I will, I’m not saying I won’t
I’m not saying I do, I’m not saying I don’t
I’m not putting you on, I’m just putting off loving you
I learned to never say never when it comes to love
Who knows we might fit together like a hand in a glove
Before we jump the gun, come on lets have some fun
I’ll let you hold me but I’m holding my tongue
I’m not saying I will, I’m not saying I won’t
I’m not saying I do, I’m not saying I don’t
I’m not putting you on, I’m just putting off loving you
I’m not trying to hide my feelings in the dark
I just need to know what’s really in your heart
I’m not saying I will, I’m not saying I won’t
I’m not saying I do, I’m not saying I don’t
I’m not putting you on, I’m just putting off loving you
This ain’t something I can rush into
This ain’t something I can rush into
This ain’t something I can rush into
Maybe I will, maybe I won’t
This ain’t something I can rush into
Maybe I do, maybe I don’t
I’m not putting you on, I’m just putting off loving you
“Lonely Alone”
This is a sad ballad. I like how it builds musically. It starts off quite; the guitar comes in and goes into this big progression of sounds. The message is not in a lot of songs. It’s about being in a relationship. I think it’s the side a lot of people don’t sing about.
I speak, but you don’t seem to hear me
I cry but tears don’t mean a thing
You watch them fall
From down the hall
I wish that I could paint a picture
To show you how I really feel
You’d only see
Only me
I’ve been hurting way too long
So why do I keep on holding on
What have I gotta lose
If you’re here or if you’re gone
I can be this lonely alone
If it wasn’t for the pillow and the covers
Crumpled up on your side of the bed
I wouldn’t believe
You’re here with me
I’ve been hurting way too long
So why do I keep on holding on
What have I gotta lose
If you’re here or if you’re gone
I can be this lonely alone
What have I gotta lose
If you’re here or if you’re gone
I can be this lonely
I can be this lonely…alone
“Safe & Sound”
(Taylor Swift, Joy Williams, John Paul White)
I’m a huge Hunger Games fan. I like Taylor Swift. I like the Civil Wars and their alternative/country influenced sound. “Safe and Sound” was the last song I picked to record. I thought it added a different type of sound and to the ethereal quality I wanted to include.
I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, “I’ll never let you go”
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, “Don’t leave me here alone”
But all that’s dead and gone and passed tonight
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You’ll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound
Don’t you dare look out your window, darling,
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Everything’s on fire
Hold on to this lullaby
Even when music’s gone
Gone
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You’ll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
La La (La La)
La La (La La)
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
La La (La La)
Just close your eyes
You’ll be alright
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound…
“Run”
(Gary Lightbody, Jonathan Quinn, Mark McClelland, Nathan Connolly, Iain Archer)
I love Snow Patrol. “Run” has been one of my favorite songs for years. I did a different take on it, though I lovetheir version. For me, “Run” is about one door closing and another door opening or being open to the possibility of a newdoor opening. The verses display the more sad parts regarding a relationship ending, whereas the chorus exudes a sense of hopeand a possibility of a new path. In our version, we decided to make the chorus really about the vocals.
I’ll sing it one last time for you
Then we really have to go
You’ve been the only thing that’s right
In all I’ve done
And I can barely look at you
But every single time I do
I know we’ll make it anywhere
Away from here
Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I’ll be right beside you dear
Louder, louder
And we’ll run for our lives
I can hardly speak I understand
Why you can’t raise your voice to say
To think I might not see those eyes
Makes it so hard not to cry
And as we say our long goodbyes
Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I’ll be right beside you dear
Louder, louder
And we’ll run for our lives
I can hardly speak I understand
Why you can’t raise your voice to say
Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I’ll be right beside you dear
I nearly do
“Knowing What I Know About Heaven”
(Sarah Darling)
This is a beautifully written song by country music singer Sarah Darling. I loved this song the first time I heard it. It’s the song that most closely associates with Grandfather. We were best friends. I have always believed and loved the idea that our life does not end with our death.
I bet the trumpets played and the angels sang
Every sweet refrain of amazing grace
And that heaven’s hands opened up the gate
And the children danced when they saw your face
As happy as they were to see you coming
I was just as sad to have to watch you go oh but
Knowing what I know about heaven
Believing that you’re all the way home
Knowing that you’re somewhere better
I could hope that I could pray you back
But why on earth would I do that
When your somewhere life and love never ends
Knowing what I know about heaven
Where every single voice makes a joyful noise
How sweet the sound when the saints rejoice
To every broken heart and every wounded soul
New life begins on streets of gold
Where every tear that is raining here from my eyes
I know the sun is shining where you are
But Knowing what I know about heaven
Believing that you’re all the way home
Knowing that you’re somewhere better
I could hope that I could pray you back
But why on earth would I do that
When your somewhere life and love never ends
Knowing what I know about heaven
I could hope that I could pray you back
But why on earth would I do that
When you’re somewhere life and love never ends
Knowing what I know about heaven
Is all I need to let you go
Is all I need to let you go
(Sting)
I love Sting’s lyrics and the idea of remembering someone after he or she is gone. A few years ago, I discovered Eva Cassidy’s version and thought she gave the song so much emotion, so we kind of meshed the two versions together.
You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Among the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold
So she took her love for to gaze awhile
Among the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold
Will you stay with me will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
And you can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold
I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left
We will walk in fields of gold
We’ll walk in fields of gold
Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
As you lie in fields of gold
You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Among the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold
When we walked in fields of gold
